I thought naruto was getting some action for a second but it was just choji eating lol.

But seriously, I think this has been one of the best arcs recently, or at least the payoff in this episode has. Along with the character arcs, I especially enjoyed how natuto used this headband to win since he only got it back after saving hinata, emphasizing the power of teamwork and the value of saving someones life.
I also appreciated how there isn't a clean explanation given to why the father gave away his daughter, only that he was pressured to in order to save the people of the village and the daughter just has to accept that and ultimately understand the value of the greater good.

political hostages were a thing throughout the middle ages as well as within fuedal china... basically, you nobles sent a child to court and this child was then used as leverage to ensure peace.

sadly, many of these children ended up abused. it's theorized that Vlad III's whole reason for perfecting the impalement stemmed from having been abused in the court of the Sigismund of Luxembourg, King of Hungary... he kinda had a repuration for little boys

anyways... political hostages were a very common thing... usually though, it was the second son, with the tertiary son going to the military (risking death) or church (and often abused there) it was very rare for the eldest child to be used as a political hostage.

How does the animation go so terribly bad near the end of the episode, took me by surprise but it's not the only time

Junki is responsible for all the filler content. Junki Takegami only writes junk. and all these fillers are a B or C team of animators who make fillers to... well, fill gaps, so the A team can finish the main story line.

Junki is famous for destroying one piece, which refused to die even though it ended on the 5th episode, when it was revealed that the pirate king spent all the treasure on ships and crews, and only had a single piece of gold left, wedged in the crosspiece, or grand line, of his straw hat.
As Junki junked the whole thing, it's nearly impossible to tell the show apart from an endless filler. but about 4/5 of that entire show was added content by Junki
